[Jeju Seongsan Must-Eat] Galchi Jorim at Buttumak Restaurant – Includes Grilled Hairtail Too! ๐
If you’re visiting Jeju Island, one dish you must try is Galchi Jorim (braised hairtail fish).
I recently visited Buttumak Restaurant, located in Seongsan-eup, and honestly, it was one of the best meals I had in Jeju – flavorful, generous portions, and surprisingly affordable, especially considering how expensive things are on the island these days.

I ordered the small Galchi Jorim, and here’s the cool part —
When you order the braised hairtail, they also serve grilled hairtail on the side!
Two styles of hairtail in one meal? Yes, please ๐
๐ฒ Taste Test: Galchi Jorim
The flavor was perfectly balanced.
The seasoning wasn’t overly salty or spicy – just rich, deep flavors that paired beautifully with a bowl of warm rice.
The fish was tender, fresh, and soaked up the savory sauce, while the radish chunks added extra flavor and texture.
The grilled version served alongside was also delicious – lightly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside.
A great contrast to the saucy main dish.
๐♂️ Service & Atmosphere
Before visiting, I read some reviews mentioning that the staff might be unfriendly.
But in my experience, they were totally fine — maybe a little brisk because the place was busy, but I didn’t feel any rudeness at all.
The seating is a bit tight, especially during peak hours, but this is the kind of restaurant you go to for the food.
If you’re here for comfort and ambiance, maybe look elsewhere — but if you’re here to eat well, this place is a gem.
✔️ Final Thoughts
With Jeju Island’s rising prices, finding a delicious AND reasonably priced seafood spot is a rare treat.
Buttumak Restaurant in Seongsan really delivers — great taste, fair portions, and good value.
Whether you're a first-timer or a returning traveler, this is one spot that deserves a place on your Jeju food itinerary.
๐ Highly recommend Buttumak Restaurant if you're craving authentic Jeju-style Galchi Jorim with a bonus grilled version!
